How to Change the Reading Level for Students in Your Class
Updated over 5 months ago

As an educator, you can customize the reading level for individual students in your class to support their learning needs. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to change the reading level for your students.

Available Reading Levels

  • Standard: This is the default reading level.

  • Simplified: This option presents text at a lower reading level, designed to support students who need extra assistance with comprehension.

Steps to Change the Reading Level for a Student

  1. Navigate to Your Class: On your dashboard, select the class where you want to adjust reading levels for students.

  2. Open the Class Roster: Inside the class, click on the 'People' tab to view your list of students.

  3. Adjust the Reading Level: In the ‘Reading Level’ column, click on the ‘Standard’ label or select the ellipses in the ‘Actions’ column and choose ‘Change Reading Level.’ Then, select one of the following options:

    • Standard (default)

    • Simplified (lower reading level)

How to experience the Simplified experience as an Educator

  1. Switch to Student Mode

  2. Select 'Simplified' from the Reading Level drop-down

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Students are not notified when their reading level is adjusted; only educators have access to this feature and its settings.

  • When a student joins your class, their reading level is automatically set to the Standard setting

  • The reading level you set for a student applies only to the current class. If the student switches to a different class, their reading level will be reset to the default of Standard.

  • This feature also works for students learning in Spanish.

By customizing the reading level for each student, you can ensure they are engaging with content at a level that matches their needs.
