Lesson Title: Lesson 4: Explore the Explore Library
Starter Kit WHY + HOW to begin living the life you want + being the person you want to be.
Curriculum & Grade Level: Future Ready, 8th Grade
Introduction
This activity facilitates classroom-wide learning about an important skill (or skills). You’ll split the class up into small groups that will go through a Skill badge you select and answer questions along the way. You will then have a full class discussion on what students learned.
Procedure:
Split the class up into pairs or groups of three.
Pick a Skill badge and instruct groups to go to the Explore Library and go through the first star of that badge.
Some suggestions for a Skill badge: creativity, problem-solving, communication, teamwork.
Have the groups read each screen together, then discuss the related question before moving on.
After the first screen explaining the skill:
Is this skill what you thought it was? What matched your idea? What was new information?
After the screen asks for a personal example:
Share your example with your group. What similarities and differences are there between each of your examples?
After the screen about related skills:
Which was the most closely related skill? Were there any that were surprises?
After each group has completed the badge and discussion, return their attention back to the class.
Lead a full-class discussion on the same topics as in the small groups. Ask for follow-ups when the conversation seems to be flowing.
Tips:
You can also do this activity as a full class by projecting the Skill badge on a projector and leading the same discussion.
For a more complex activity, you can have different groups complete different skill badges and then share about that skill with the class.
