Materials Required
Index cards or scraps of paper
A marker
Preparation
Before the activity, write different emotions (happy, sad, bored, confused, etc.) on separate index cards. There should be at least 10 different emotions for each group.
Instructions
Divide the class into small groups of 4-5 students.
How to play:
One person from each group draws an emotion card without showing it to the others.
The person with the card acts out the emotion using only facial expressions, gestures, and posture.
The rest of the group tries to guess the emotion.
Once someone guesses correctly, the next person in the group draws a card.
After playing a few rounds, have the class discuss the following questions:
How did you feel when you were acting out the emotions?
How did you feel when you were trying to guess the emotions?
What nonverbal cues helped you identify the emotions?
How can understanding nonverbal communication help us in our daily lives?
Additional Options
You can turn this activity into a competition between each group. Have the class go for 5 minutes and each correct guess counts as a point.
