Lesson Title: Lesson 5: Explore the Explore Library

Starter Kit WHY + HOW to begin living the life you want + being the person you want to be.

Curriculum & Grade Level: Future Proof, 7th Grade

Introduction

Students have done some exploring in the Career badge section of the Explore Library. This activity will have them use that section to acknowledge career titles they recognize and ones they don’t to show them that learning more about careers they don’t know, but are interested in, is an important task.

Procedure:

  1. Distribute the “Exploring Career Titles” worksheet on the second page of this document.

  2. Have students go to the Careers section of the Find Your Grind Explore Library and fill out the worksheet.

    1. In the left column, they write down 5 career titles they recognize and know a little bit about

    2. In the right column, they write down 5 career titles they don’t recognize, but are interested in.

  3. Once students have completed their lists, have them write down a few words about each career they have listed in the left column (what it is, what they know, etc.).

  4. Once complete, have students get up and walk around the room to find a career buddy - someone who knows something about one of the careers they have written down in their right column (what they want to learn more about).

  5. Students discuss the career with their buddy, asking questions and sharing information. They take notes on what they learn.

  6. Once they’ve exchanged information, students find a new career buddy and repeat the process.

  7. If there’s time, have students share what they learned about a career with the class.

Tips:

  • If students can't find a classmate who knows about a career they're interested in, they should circle it to do more research on Find Your Grind.

  • Students should be open-minded and curious during your conversations. They might discover new interests or perspectives.

  • Students should take notes on the information they learn, so they can refer back to it later.
